At the beginning of September, some of the team here at The Culinary Food Group made their annual trip to Meatopia in London. It’s always a great event, full of fun and interesting food and if anyone is into meat and BBQ’s it’s the place to be!
Here’s the low down on the event…..
A Bit About Meatopia
A Mecca for all thing’s meat, smoke and fire. Based in the iconic Tobacco Dock, Meatopia opens its doors for three glorious days of gluttony at the end of the summer!!
In fact, Hawsmoor chef Richard Turner is one of the people responsible for bringing Meatopia over to the UK from New York in back in 2013.
This year chef Lennox Hastie from Firedoor in Sydney was flown in for the event and needless to say he lived up to the billing. With by far the biggest queues on the day, Lennox’s Grilled Octopus with Nduja Cannellini Beans and Salty Fingers was easily one of the, if not the best dish of the event. We absolutely loved it!

There was plenty of other delicious options…. We thought Hawksmoor’s Salt Aged Hereford Beef with Fried Onions & Bone Marrow was amazing.
Aaron Webster’s Ash-Brined Chicken with Heritage Tomatoes, Smoked Ricotta, Whey & MSG Vinaigrette was also fantastic and packed full of flavour.
It wouldn’t be 2018 without something in Taco format and Andy Stubbs Tacos al Pastor with Burnt Pineapple Salsa and Crema certainly didn’t disappoint!!
Thinking of Going to Meatopia in 2019? Who Should Attend?
Meatopia is a buzzing, modern, social media driven event but don’t let that put you off (!) – there really is something for everyone. The trade, Generation X, parents and kids – all head along and mix with young and trendy millennials.
It attracts people not only from all over the UK but from all over Europe as well – all you need is a love of food and a good healthy appetite…. As you can see we tried our best!!!
The Cutting Room
In addition to the vast selection of first-class eateries, there is also The Cutting Room, a stage dedicated to educating people about ethical animal husbandry, butchery demonstrations, how to age meat and for how long, how best to cook using fire, sustainability of woods & charcoal. The talks and presentations are full of useful information, and the speakers frequently take questions from the floor.
